The Torre di Canicarao Agritourism is run by the Cooperativa Sociale San Giovanni Battista-Onlus and offers employment to disadvantaged persons. The Agritourism does not simply aim to offer quality rural tourism, but also employment for “vulnerable” people, helping them to regain their dignity and offering them a new chance in life. The Cooperative operates in several sectors (catering, agriculture, cleaning and maintenance), providing work for different categories of disadvantaged persons (the disabled, drug addicts and former drug addicts, prisoners, those carrying out community service, the mentally ill and working-age minors). Disadvantages in the work place are not an absolute condition, but are linked to a person’s circumstances; they affect the employment prospects of a given person in a given social context. The Cooperative undertakes to improve employee’s skills and also to make the work place a more pleasant place to be.
